Pepper is one of the most widely used spices in the world and is an important part of Polish cuisine. Due to the climate, pepper is not grown in Poland, but imported. The main countries importing pepper to Poland are Vietnam, Brazil and India. Pepper is mainly imported from tropical countries, where climatic conditions are ideal for its cultivation. We distinguish between several main types of pepper, each of which comes from slightly different regions.
Piper nigrum is the plant from which black pepper is obtained, but also white and green pepper. The difference between the two is due to when the fruit is harvested and how it is processed.
